West Ham enter the 2019 campaign with a fairly clean bill of health. The only player unavailable for the match is the current captain, Mark Noble. We’ve seen an interesting preseason and have added a striker at the 11th hour, as Albian Ajeti joined West Ham from FC Basel in Switzerland for approximately £8 million.
I wouldn’t expect to see him in the starting 11 as we will be focusing on a 4-3-3 formation. My key performer for the match will have to be Declan Rice. It’s essential for the attacking-minded midfield to continue to protect our porous backline from the defending champions. Manchester City were the top goal scorers the previous two seasons and I don’t suspect that will change much this weekend. We’ve conceded 15 goals in the last five league matches against the Citizens and four against them in the Asian Premier League Trophy friendly this preseason. At some point our luck must change, however I don’t believe it will be this weekend.
Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 West Ham United
